The Amstel flows right through Amsterdam. As we sail up the river from the IJ via the city centre, we pass a number of famous bridges, such as the Blauwbrug, the Magere Brug with the Amstel locks, and the Berlagebrug. On the banks, we see impressive buildings, including the Stopera, the Hermitage, the Carré Theatre and the Amstel Hotel. We then leave the city and sail through greener surroundings to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. In the Middle Ages, this was the residence of the Lords of Amstel. Today, it is home to a number of excellent restaurants. We can show you the beauty of the Amstel with four saloon boats: the Emma (20 people), Belle van Zuylen (30 people), the Adeline (50 people) and the Dame van Amstel (80 people).
The route we sail is completely customizable and depends in part on where you want to embark and disembark. You can even order a funeral by boat with us. If you’d rather not have to think about that, we’ve put together three beautiful itineraries for you that will take you past the most beautiful highlights of Amsterdam: Burgwallen, Grachtengordel and Old and New Harbors.
From Ouderkerk, we sail on to the small village of Nes on the Amstel, which was established in the 16th century as land situated outside the dykes. Continuing further south, we arrive in Uithoorn. Here, the Amstel splits into the Kromme Mijdrecht and the Drecht. The Kromme Mijdrecht, in particular, is a beautiful stretch of river to sail along thanks to its meandering course. Along the Amstel, we find a number of old forts that formed part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Due to the constant temperature and humidity, several wine tasting venues are now based there. Your cruise on the Amstel can very well start in Amsterdam or Uithoorn, but other embarkation points are also possible.
