Dining among maritime heritage

De Oosthal as a cultural setting for dinners

A dinner that feels like a destination

De Oosthal is not a standard dining space, but a place with a story: industrial heritage, maritime history and museum pieces as a backdrop. That automatically gives the dinner a cultural charge and makes it suitable for moments that are allowed to be more than “just food” – from relationship evenings to anniversaries and special receptions.

  • Atmosphere without overproduction: the venue carries the scenery; styling can remain subtle.
  • Story in space: heritage as a natural “layer” for host script, signing and experience.
  • High guest feel: setting feels exclusive and memorable without becoming formal.

Table logistics that are right

Dinners are all about comfort and pace: good walking lines for service, ample space between tables and a logical place for reception and closing. De Oosthal is one large, open space that you can arrange so that the dinner runs smoothly – with room for a brief toast, a welcome or a subtle program element.

What you can manage on

  • Table arrangement & walking lines: appropriate to service, sightlines and your playbook.
  • Reception & transition: place for welcome/aperitif and natural flow to tables.
  • Technology & atmosphere: lighting, audio and any projection without “room feel.

Location

De Oosthal is situated on the Nieuwe Vaart in Amsterdam East, right on the water’s edge, and also borders the Westhal shipyard. Historically, this area has been a major centre for shipbuilding and the maritime industry in Amsterdam.

Thanks to our central location by the water, we can also arrange boat transfers for your event guests.

Space

  • Approx. 250 m² net floor area, as one large, open-plan space
  • Approx. 470 m² gross floor area, including maritime exhibitions (historic ship engines)
  • Centrale entree met grote ontvangstruimte en toiletten
  • Maximum 200 seats (theatre-style seating)
  • Maximum 250 people (standing)

Maritime culture & history as an integral part of the experience

Dinner in De Oosthal takes place in and next to Museum ‘t Kromhout, between maritime heritage and the history of Amsterdam’s manufacturing industry. That context automatically gives the evening depth, without having to become formal. The heritage can be subtly reflected in the welcome, the host script or a short route along the museum exhibits upon reception.

Adjusted rate for cultural bodies

Cultural organizations (such as museums, music organizations and foundations) can take advantage of a modified rate.

Boat transfer option

The waterfront event can already begin on the boat

A dinner party gets extra experience when it starts on the way: guests gather on board, land quietly, and start the evening with a reception on the water. Upon arrival, guests immediately step into the maritime-cultural setting of De Oosthal.

It could work as follows:

  • We will coordinate a central boarding location and sailing time to fit your schedule.
  • A reception moment may be held on board (aperitif, welcome, brief briefing).
  • Afterwards, a return cruise can also be arranged, if desired.

Boat transfer is optional: you can also use De Oosthal without a boat, or just for a select group (VIP/press/speaker team).
