A ceremony with character, without fuss

De Oosthal as a cultural setting for wedding ceremonies

A ceremony with a story as the backdrop

De Oosthal is not a traditional wedding venue. You say “yes” in a space where maritime history, industrial heritage and museum pieces come together – giving the ceremony meaning and atmosphere naturally, without feeling kitsch or over-styled.

  • Strong basic atmosphere: heritage and architecture carry the setting; styling can remain refined.
  • Photogenic setting: special backdrop for entrance, ceremony and group moments.
  • Quiet experience: the venue feels authentic and intimate, even with a larger group.

Clear ceremony flow

A ceremony requires an overview: a clear entrance, good sightlines and a setup that provides tranquility. De Oosthal is one open space, allowing you to position the ceremony exactly to suit your party – with room for a short toast, music or a small ritual.

What you can steer on:

  • Arrangement & sightlines: seating plan to suit your desired atmosphere (classic, semi-circle, in-the-round).
  • Entrance moment: entering bride and groom with clear routing and focus.
  • Audio & acoustics: speech, music and microphones matched to the space.

Location

De Oosthal is situated on the Nieuwe Vaart in Amsterdam East, right on the water’s edge, and also borders the Westhal shipyard. Historically, this area has been a major centre for shipbuilding and the maritime industry in Amsterdam.

Thanks to our central location by the water, we can also arrange boat transfers for your event guests.

Space

  • Approx. 250 m² net floor area, as one large, open-plan space
  • Approx. 470 m² gross floor area, including maritime exhibitions (historic ship engines)
  • Centrale entree met grote ontvangstruimte en toiletten
  • Maximum 200 seats (theatre-style seating)
  • Maximum 250 people (standing)

Maritime culture & history as an integral part of the experience

De Oosthal is located in and next to Museum ‘t Kromhout. Therefore, the setting of the ceremony is directly linked to maritime history and Amsterdam’s manufacturing industry – visible in the space and tangible in the heritage around you. A short contextual sentence in the welcome or a route along the museum exhibits is often enough to subtly impart that layer.

Adjusted rate for cultural bodies

Cultural organizations (such as museums, music organizations and foundations) can take advantage of a modified rate.

Boat transfer option

The waterfront event can already begin on the boat

For a ceremony, boat transfers can provide an extra special arrival moment – for the bridal couple, a select party or all the guests. The boat transfer provides peace and build-up, after which one steps directly into De Oosthal.

It could work as follows:

  • We will coordinate a central boarding location and sailing time to fit your schedule.
  • A reception moment (welcome, drinks, short briefing) may take place on board.
  • Afterwards, a return cruise can also be arranged, if desired.

Boat transfer is optional: you can also use De Oosthal without a boat, or just for a select group (VIP/press/speaker team).
