When the Succes was built in 1897, she was one of the largest and strongest steam tugs in the Netherlands. Now, 120 years later, it is Holland’s oldest steamship still sailing. A paragon of Dutch glory. A wonderful venue for large and small gatherings, private and corporate. And a few weeks out of the year, the most beautiful of Sinterklaas’s gift boats, too!
Sailing in style.
The Success is fully furnished in the style of the luxurious passenger ships of the early 20th century, with leather sofas, teak, copper, crystal and many art deco details. Sailing in style is the motto. The steamship features two saloons decorated in 19th-century style to accommodate 150 guests. The intimate upper salon has a leather circular seating area with captain’s table and private bar. About 40 people can enjoy a beautiful view here.
In fine weather, the benches of the sun deck beckon. The downstairs lounge seats over 80 people and has a bar and dance floor. Large windows here also provide a nice view of the surroundings. This deck also houses the kitchen, checkroom and restrooms.
Steamship Success
In addition to the nostalgic interior and authentic equipment for true steam navigation, this beautiful steamer is also equipped with diesel engine, bow thruster, power generators, modern navigation equipment, central heating and air conditioning. You can rest assured that you can “blow off steam” safely and comfortably in all seasons and weather conditions!
The Success is also superbly equipped for parties, presentations and training, including an antique grand piano, a sound system with microphones, a music computer with tens of thousands of titles in all genres and audiovisual resources such as a projector with projection screen.
Steamship Success
Furnishings and comfort make the Succes the party ship for any event. Wedding, corporate event, birthday or anniversary: your party is in good hands with us. In the process, the kitchen staff is happy to pamper you with customized catering, from simple lunch and appetizers to cake with champagne and a complete three-course dinner. With its nostalgic and romantic look, Success is the perfect setting for television and film shoots. The ship can also serve well as a (mobile) showroom for product presentations. The recognizable sounds of the Calliope, Europe’s largest steam organ, make the Success the crowd-pleaser at any event.
Sailing throughout the Netherlands
The berth of the steamship Success is Diemen, but it is also possible to embark or disembark at another place. Exactly where you board, you decide in advance in consultation with our reservation staff. It is also possible to get off at a different place than where you got on. The advantage is that you can navigate a larger area and not travel the route twice. You must have alternative transportation to the pick-up point. Of course, we can arrange that for you. There are many options, such as near Central Station Amsterdam, Amsterdam North, Zaandam, Muiden, Rotterdam etc.
Steamship Success
In its long existence, the Success has served numerous times as St. Nicholas’ gift boat. National fame came in 1993, at the Ravenstein entry.
Since then, it has sailed with many Saint Nicholas entries and has played a prominent role in commercials and feature films, such as the film “Pak van mijn hart.”
St. Nicholas, Amerigo and all the pete’s (including the whiner) are always happy to sail on this steamboat. Would you like to use the Success and her famous steam organ at your St. Nicholas parade? Then make your reservations early!
Luxury boat arrangements for special occasions
Our salon boat Dame van Amstel sails through Amsterdam as well as on the Amstel and the Vecht: two beautiful rivers with a character all their own. On the Vecht, you cruise past countless country houses and small castles, often surrounded by the lushest gardens with exuberant hydrangeas. You will pass small tea domes, cute bridges and the most beautiful villages.
The Amstel River flows between Amsterdam and Uithoorn. Still in Amsterdam, the cruise leads past highlights of the city, such as the Magere Brug and theater Carré. Further out on the Amstel, you sail past the picturesque towns of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and Nes aan de Amstel. The river is relatively high here, so you are “sailing higher,” so to speak, than the surrounding pastures and farms. That alone is a unique experience.
With the Success, many beautiful cruising routes are possible. Consider, for example, the waters of Amsterdam or the Marker Lake. The Success can go all over the Netherlands.
Steamship Success can carry up to 150 people. For a seated dinner at the table, that’s 82 people. For a running buffet, the maximum is 150 people.
With its romantic look, the Success is a popular wedding venue. Many happy couples have already said yes to each other in the salon or on the deck. At several municipalities the Success is registered as an official wedding location and you can get married with an officiant aboard our ship.
Beauty is on the outside and inside
The times of the cruise with the Success can be adjusted entirely to your wishes. For example, you can sail to an outing on Pampus with a sumptuous lunch or cozy drinks on board afterwards. Or how about a running buffet followed by an entire evening of dancing in the salon. Limitations are not really there, opportunities abound!
