Scattering ashes on water, how it works

Increasingly, relatives are choosing to scatter the ashes of the deceased on water. On our salon boats, this is of course possible. We take a cruise and you determine the place and time of the scattering and accompanying ceremony.

The scattering of ashes can basically take place on any stretch of public water, whether it is the Markermeer, the IJ, the Amstel, the Vecht or one of Amsterdam’s canals. Formally, however, you must report the scattering. We can help you with that.

There are several ways to scatter ashes. It can be in a dissolvable urn or with a scattering tube. You put the soluble urn in the water yourself. After it floats for a while, it sinks to the bottom by itself. We do not recommend scattering the ashes loose over the water.

The cost of a scattering depends on your personal wishes. There are clients who keep the ceremony simple and there are clients who want to share it with several people and make it a big happening. Since you spend your insurance money how you want, it is up to you to decide how to handle it. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact us.
