Salon boat owners protest unjust rules Amsterdam

Tommy van Riet, chairman of the United Shipowners’ Association of Amsterdam:
“We are not responsible for the abuses on the canals.”
“The 35 salon boats operating in Amsterdam are not the cause of crowding on the water, but they are in danger of losing their license. They hardly sail with tourists and are not bound by the sailing area and route along places of interest. There are so many differences that it is not realistic to lump the salon boats together with the open sloops and tourist tour boats.”
A truism. Strong argument against the municipality seeking to thwart the activities of salon boat owners.
On our ships, ventilation is guaranteed
The aerosols surrounding the coronavirus play an increasingly important role. Where the droplets linger, contamination lurks. Staying inside is more dangerous than outside. On a Rederij Belle saloon boat, you run a significantly lower risk; certainly on a moving vessel, the aerosols disperse more quickly than in a house.
Our ships are equipped with a heating system, which sucks out the cold air at the bottom. This is heated and discharged through the roof of the boat.
The latest rules
From 29 September, the following rules will apply:
– A maximum of 30 people may gather indoors
– A maximum of 40 people may gather outdoors
– There is no limit on the number of people at funerals
Unlike the hospitality industry, there is no end time for ships. We may conduct the cruise at any time and are not limited in doing so.
