Since this summer, Rederij Belle has been sailing its salon boat Emma completely clean and electric through the canals of Amsterdam, Amstel and the Vecht. Emma is a salon boat that can accommodate 20 people and is used for day trips and other boating activities.
Advantages of electric boating
The advantages of electric cruising are obvious “Emma has not made any noise since the conversion to electric, which is a big difference from the noise the diesel engine used to make,” spoke Sacha Emmerik director of Rederij Belle. “In addition, it is much more fuel efficient and there is no air pollution.”
Conversion provided by E-ship
The conversion from the old to the new electrical state was provided by E-ship. “E-ship did a great job and converted the boat exactly the way we wanted. Among other things, they provided the propulsion, replaced the engine for an electric motor and removed the propeller shaft. It was really a job but with a great result,” Emmerik said.

Rederij Belle rents four luxury salon boats for day trips and other boating activities through Amsterdam, Amstel and the Vecht. The conversion of the Emma marks the second salon boat in the series of four to go electric. Previously, salon boat Belle van Zuylen was converted to an environmentally friendly sloop.
