Amsterdam has a lot of beautiful, modern architecture in addition to historic buildings – and much of it can be found on the waterfront. Cruise around, enjoy snacks and drinks and feast your eyes.
The architecture cruise on one of our salon boats will show you the most beautiful and interesting modern architecture Amsterdam has to offer. We will cruise through the Eastern Docklands and past the new islands, among other places. We meet familiar buildings such as the cruise ship passenger terminal, the Eye film museum, the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ and converted warehouses. On the Oostelijke Handelskade we see the old Lloyd hotel, which in its heyday housed thousands of workers from Eastern Europe before they embarked for America. And, of course, we also take a look at how the monumental warehouse “De Zwijger” was taken into account during the construction of the Jan Schaefer Bridge.
The architecture cruise will also take you past Java Island, where the architecture is based on Amsterdam’s seventeenth-century ring of canals. In fact, four new canals have been dug here.
On KNSM Island, we find large residential buildings with an allure that is almost un-Dutch. They stand amid a number of old port buildings, and that combination is beautiful. At the KNSM Island we also moor, to admire the architecture on foot. The Singelgracht, once Amsterdam’s outermost defensive moat, shows us architecture from the 1990s. These are designs by architects from around the world.
The duration of the architecture cruise in Amsterdam is at least 2 hours, but of course we can tailor it to your needs. Also consider combining it with a visit to an (architecture) museum or a restaurant.
