25 years of Rederij Belle – the birth of a second Lady
Shipping Company Belle is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! In our anniversary series, we look back at special moments in our history. In this part, we take you back to the year 2003 – when the fleet was expanded with a 2nd Lady.
They wanted more than a saloon boat – we wanted the most beautiful, largest and luxurious saloon boat in Amsterdam. And that happened, right in the middle of the creative chaos of the NDSM wharf.
Under the roof of a huge shed, they worked on a dream with ironworker Jan Huisman and two young carpenters led by Alfred. At the time, the NDSM shed was a hot spot for artists and other unusual construction projects, and Friday nights were celebrated in the alternative pub under the ramps. The whole atmosphere had an inspiring effect on construction.
After eight months, she was ready: a new Dame in our fleet. How her christening went? You can read that in the next anniversary story.
Hip hip hurrah for Museum ‘t Kromhout ????
On Saturday, June 14, Museum ‘t Kromhout celebrated its 50th anniversary with an atmospheric maritime event. Visitors went on a time travel along the development of ship propulsion, from muscle power to modern technology.
From a festive concert on the Succes steam organ to demonstrations with historic engines – it was a day full of nostalgia, technology and tribute. The anniversary medal, presented by Deputy Mayor Hester van Buren, was the icing on the cake.
