Sail from Uithoorn to Amsterdam

By Amstelland to the Capital

Your cruise on the Amstel River, from Uithoorn to Amsterdam, begins in the quaint countryside where the river winds through the moorland.  As you sail, your views will range from lush, green landscapes to the beautiful villages of Nes and Ouderkerk and finally bustling Amsterdam, all while feeling the rush of the sea air: a true experience for the senses.

Wine and Marry

This route begins at the junction of the Amstel and the Kromme Mijdrecht Rivers where the Amstel is winding and beautiful.  Strategically placed at this location is one of the forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, the Fort Drecht, and within the fort Rederij Belle’s wine supplier Vinocerf.  If you would like, the maison there will gladly organize a special wine tasting for you and your company in Vinocerf’s beautiful tasting room.  Beyond the fort, one kilometre outside the village, lays the old Thamer Church, which is a popular wedding venue.  The Dame van Amstel regularly cruises this route for onboard weddings.

Sailing, Mooring and Eating – in Any Order

In Ouderkerk there are a number of excellent restaurants where you and your guests can dock for a bite and a drink.  Restaurant ’t Jagershuis, for example, is part of Rederij Belle’s dinner cruises on the Amstel River.  Other wonderful options include Restaurant Paardenburg, Loetje aan de Amstel, Ron Blauw and Restaurant Lute.  Let us know what you are craving, and we will help you choose the best spot.

View Amsterdam from the Water

Further along the Amstel River, towards Amsterdam, you will pass the Restaurant Klein Kalfje. This café has a spacious waterfront terrace that is a popular destination for a relaxing Sunday afternoon visit.  In the town of Omval, the Amstel River branches off into the Weespertrekvaart, a barge canal which connects to the Vecht River.  You will remain on the mighty Amstel and sail toward the center of Amsterdam, passing a number of prominent bridges and buildings along the way such as the Berlage Bridge built in 1928 and the famous Amstel Hotel where our ships regularly moor.

As you sail on, you will pass the Royal Theatre Carré – also a favorite docking location – and the Skinny Bridge, which is very popular for wedding photos.  Wedding or not, a kiss under the Skinny Bridge is highly recommended! Further still, you will arrive in the city at the Oosterdok, very near to the Maritime Museum, the Hilton Hotel and the Amrath Hotel. The covered courtyard of the Maritime Museum is perfect for events and dinners with large groups.

New Architecture

The final waterway of the cruise is the IJ.  The once broken down warehouses that stood here have now been transformed into beautiful buildings such as the EYE Film Museum, the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and the new Palace of Justice.  Would you like to learn more about this stunning architecture or perhaps the history of Amsterdam in general while you sail?  Rederij Belle is happy to provide an expert tour guide for your cruise.
