The Amstel River begins its journey just south of Uithoorn where the Drecht and Kromme Mijdrecht join. The river was once called Aeme-Stelle, which literally means “watery area”. From Uithoorn, the river flows via Ouderkerk to Amsterdam where it passes under several bridges including the Berlage Bridge, the Hoge Sluis (or High Sluis), the Magere Brug (also known as the Skinny Bridge) and the Amstel Locks. The Amstel finally comes to an end in Rokin, close to the Spui. Your cruise can begin and end anywhere in or between Uithoorn and Amsterdam.
